One Company for Gurdon Demolition and Dirt Work

We handle demolition and dirt work in Gurdon, AR, the second-largest city in Clark County. Gurdon sits about 52 road miles south of our base in Hot Springs, a little over an hour's drive. In a straight line that is about 41 miles, inside the 50 mile radius we work. Every estimate in Gurdon is free, and we give it on site.

In Gurdon we take on house demolition and mobile home removal, with the debris hauled off. After a teardown, the lot may need excavation and dirt work or grading and site prep. On a wooded lot, lot clearing comes first, and our tracked excavators dig the stumps out.

How old is the housing in Gurdon?

Census estimates put the median year built for homes in Gurdon at 1976. About six in ten homes here were built before 1980, and the same estimates count 105 mobile homes. The town has also shrunk, from 2,707 people in the 1980 Census to 1,840 in 2020. That 2020 count found 949 housing units, and 21.4 percent of them stood vacant.

The rental vacancy rate in that count was 14.6 percent. In a town with that many empty houses, some reach the point where a teardown beats repair. Our teardown cost guide and mobile home demolition cost guide show what moves the price. Concrete removal can take out the old slab and piers in the same job.

How did the railroad and timber build Gurdon?

Gurdon, incorporated in 1880, grew up at a rail junction with lines to Glenwood, Mount Ida, Camden and El Dorado. Timber companies opened mills in the area, and the count peaked at ten in the late nineteenth century. The Concatenated Order of Hoo-Hoo, the international lumbermen's association, was founded here in 1892. Gurdon's school teams, the Go-Devils, share their name with logging equipment used to drag heavy logs.

Passenger service ended in 1968 and much of the track was removed, but the railroad still operates here. The 1917 Missouri Pacific Depot stands on North First Street. The town keeps a timber-based economy and serves as a bedroom community for people who work nearby. If a lot is grown up in timber, our land clearing cost guide breaks down per acre prices.

How do the ground and roads around Gurdon shape dirt work?

Gurdon sits at 203 feet of elevation in southern Clark County. The county spans two of Arkansas's natural regions, the Ouachita Mountains and the Gulf Coastal Plain. On Gurdon's low ground, the grade of a lot decides whether rain runs off or stands in the yard. We set driveway culverts and shape the grade so water moves off the pad and the drive.

U.S. 67 runs 15 miles northeast to Arkadelphia, the county seat, and 16 miles southwest to Prescott. Interstate 30 was built nearby, so our dump trucks reach Gurdon sites on main roads. Those trucks bring in fill dirt and gravel, delivered and spread, to raise a low pad. A gravel driveway can go down once the grade is set and the culvert is in.

Gurdon FAQ

Questions From Gurdon Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Gurdon. Don't see yours? Call us and ask.

Call (501) 617-1511

Do I need to call 811 before a teardown in Gurdon?
Yes. Arkansas law requires contact with Arkansas 811 before any digging or demolishing work. The member utilities have two full working days from the request to locate their lines. That wait goes into the start date for every teardown or dig we schedule in Gurdon.
Does tearing down an old house in Gurdon need an asbestos inspection?
It depends on the building. Arkansas requires structures to be inspected before demolition, but certain residential structures are excluded. The state rule leaves out residential buildings with four or fewer dwelling units, unless another trigger applies. When the rule does cover a Gurdon demolition, DEQ requires a Notice of Intent whether asbestos is present or not.
Where can teardown debris from Gurdon go?
Arkansas DEQ lists the Clark County Landfill as an active Class 4 landfill. A DEQ list of Class 4 sites puts it at 507 Round Hill Road in Arkadelphia. DEQ says Class 4 landfills can accept non-hazardous, bulky, inert solid waste. Debris haul-off from a Gurdon teardown is part of our dump truck hauling.
Do you work in Curtis, Okolona, Beirne and Whelen Springs?
Yes, Gurdon is about 41 miles from Hot Springs as the crow flies, inside our 50 mile radius. Curtis and Okolona sit closer to our base, at about 35 and 38 miles. Beirne and Whelen Springs, a few miles southwest and south of Gurdon, are about 43 and 47 miles out. Call (501) 617-1511 for a free on-site estimate in any of them.
