One Company for Dardanelle Demolition and Dirt Work

Dardanelle sits beside the Arkansas River in northeast Yell County, and we bring demolition and dirt work here. Yell County borders Garland County, and the town lies about 69 road miles north of our base in Hot Springs. The drive takes about 85 minutes, nearly all of it north on AR 7. In a straight line it is about 51 miles, at the north edge of the area we serve.

In Dardanelle we take on house demolition and mobile home removal, and our dump trucks haul the debris away. Our tracked excavators do the excavation and dirt work, from river bottomland to hillside lots toward Mount Nebo. We also cover Centerville and Ola, about 8 and 14 miles south of town. Plainview, Corinth and Belleville sit about 18 miles southwest, near Danville, the county's other seat.

What does the Arkansas River mean for a lot in Dardanelle?

Dardanelle Rock, a 300-foot rock face, stands at the river's edge, and one story ties the town's name to it. In the Flood of 1927, water covered the low-water areas in town. In February 1943, 12,000 acres of Dardanelle Bottoms were under water. Some 200 families were evacuated, mostly by boats sent from Dardanelle.

Dardanelle Lock and Dam was completed in 1969, yet the Flood of 2019 still affected the town. On a low lot near the river, we haul in fill dirt to raise the house pad. Grading and site prep then slopes the pad so rain runs off it and away from the house. Where a drive out of the Bottoms crosses a ditch, a driveway culvert carries the water under the gravel driveway.

What changes on a hillside lot toward Mount Nebo?

Mount Nebo State Park lies seven miles west of Dardanelle and rises to 1,800 feet above sea level. The town sits at about 334 feet, so the land climbs nearly 1,500 feet on the way up. Up top, the mountain holds about 1,000 level acres. On the slopes in between, a homesite needs a different plan than a lot in the Bottoms.

On a lot climbing toward the mountain, our tracked excavators cut the house pad and drive into the slope. A large block retaining wall then holds back the hillside above the cut. If a hillside lot is wooded, lot clearing comes first, and an excavator digs out each stump. Our stump removal hauls the stumps off and backfills the holes before grading starts.

How much of Dardanelle was built before 1980?

Census estimates show six homes in ten in Dardanelle went up before 1980, with a median year built of 1975. The 1970s alone added 391 of the town's 1,856 housing units, more than any other decade. About one home in fourteen is a mobile home, 132 in all. The 2020 Census counted 4,517 people in town, out of 20,263 in Yell County.

More than four in ten occupied homes here are rented, and the 1970s homes are now about fifty years old. When a rental or an old single-wide in town is past saving, a teardown clears the lot. Concrete removal can take out the old slab and footings in the same job. Our house teardown cost guide and mobile home demolition cost guide show what moves the price.

Dardanelle FAQ

Questions From Dardanelle Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Dardanelle. Don't see yours? Call us and ask.

Call (501) 617-1511

What permits does a Dardanelle teardown need?
Ask Dardanelle City Hall what the city requires before a house inside the city limits comes down. The state asbestos rule does not cover residential buildings with four or fewer dwelling units, though some exceptions apply. A building it does cover must first be inspected by an asbestos inspector certified in Arkansas. DEQ also wants written notice at least ten working days ahead, whether asbestos turns up or not.
Where does debris from a Dardanelle teardown go?
When we do the teardown, we load the debris and haul it off the lot. For a load you haul yourself, Yell County runs a compactor station in Dardanelle. It is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the county at 479-495-4861 to ask whether it takes construction and demolition waste, which state rules call Class 4.
Can I burn the brush from a cleared lot near Dardanelle?
On your own land in Yell County, burning brush is your call as the landowner. Check the county website for a burn ban before you light a pile. Inside Dardanelle city limits, ask City Hall about burning too. If you would rather not burn, we load the brush and haul it off the lot.
Do I have to call 811 before digging in Dardanelle?
Yes, Arkansas law requires contacting Arkansas 811 before any digging or demolishing work, in town or out toward Mount Nebo. Dial 811 or 1-800-482-8998 to open a ticket. Member utilities then locate their lines at your Dardanelle dig site within two full working days. Once the lines are marked, you have ten working days from the call to start the work.
