One Company for Murfreesboro Demolition and Dirt Work

Murfreesboro, Arkansas, is the Pike County seat, and we bring demolition and dirt work here from Hot Springs. The town sits about 56 road miles southwest of our base, roughly a 75 minute drive. The route runs west on US 70, then south on AR 27 near Kirby. As the crow flies it is about 47 miles, close to the southwest edge of our working area.

Around Murfreesboro we take on house demolition and mobile home removal, and our dump trucks carry off the debris. Our tracked excavators do the excavation and dirt work on river-bottom lots in town and on homesites near Lake Greeson. Two miles southeast of town, Crater of Diamonds State Park lets visitors search the eroded surface of a volcanic crater.

How does river-bottom ground shape dirt work in Murfreesboro?

Murfreesboro sits on low-lying, rich river bottom land. The Little Missouri River runs along the west and south sides of town, about two miles out on each side. Before Narrows Dam, heavy rains in the Ouachitas rushed through the mountain gaps and flooded the low fields around town. Those floods damaged houses and cost farmers livestock and crops.

Narrows Dam, six miles north of town, has protected some 93,000 acres of farmland and homes since 1950. Its spillway still overflowed in 1968 and 2009, and land along the river below the dam flooded. On a low lot, fill dirt hauling builds the pad up, and grading and site prep slopes it to drain. Where a drive crosses a ditch, we set a driveway culvert to carry the water.

How old are the homes in Murfreesboro?

Murfreesboro counted 1,495 residents in the 2020 Census, and recent Census estimates put its housing at 865 units. Of those, 66 are mobile homes, and 96 stand vacant, so about one home in nine sits empty. More than half of the town's homes went up before 1980, and the median year built is 1978. The 1980s added 271 homes, more than any other decade.

When an older house or single-wide in town is past repair, a teardown clears the lot for a new build. The old slab or piers can come out in the same job before the lot is graded. Our mobile home demolition cost guide shows what moves the price of a trailer removal.

What goes into a homesite near Lake Greeson and Daisy?

North of town, the Corps of Engineers built Narrows Dam, which holds back Lake Greeson. Daisy State Park sits on the north shore of the 7,000-acre lake. The county's northern half lies in the Ouachita foothills, with rocky ground and fertile valleys between the mountains. Pike County's own website names commercial forestry and family farms as its economic base.

On a wooded homesite near Daisy or Kirby, lot clearing comes first. If a lot borders Corps project land at the lake, cutting trees there takes the District Commander's written permission. A tracked excavator digs the stumps out, and our stump removal includes the haul-off and backfill. Then a gravel driveway runs from the house pad to the road.

Questions From Murfreesboro Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Murfreesboro. Don't see yours? Call us and ask.

Call (501) 617-1511

Do I need a permit to tear down a house in Murfreesboro?
Call Murfreesboro City Hall before a teardown inside the city limits and ask what the city requires. State law also requires contacting Arkansas 811 before any digging or demolishing work. Member utilities locate their lines within two full working days, so build that time into the start date.
Does an older Murfreesboro house need an asbestos inspection before demolition?
It depends on the building. Arkansas DEQ's asbestos rule excludes residential buildings with four or fewer dwelling units, though some exceptions apply. A covered building first needs an inspection by an asbestos inspector certified in the State of Arkansas. DEQ then needs written notice at least ten working days before demolition begins, even if no asbestos is present.
Is there a landfill near Murfreesboro for demolition debris?
DEQ's list of Class 4 landfills names the Pike County Landfill on Landfill Road in Murfreesboro. Class 4 waste includes construction and demolition waste. The contact number on that list, (870) 285-2414, is the Pike County Judge's office. Call before you haul a load and ask what the landfill takes and charges.
Do you work in Delight, Daisy, Kirby and the other towns near Murfreesboro?
Yes. Delight and Antoine lie about 11 and 16 miles east of town. Daisy and Kirby sit about 12 and 13 miles north, and Newhope about 15 miles northwest. Our page on Glenwood covers the Pike County town about 20 miles north-northeast. Call (501) 617-1511 to set up a free on-site estimate anywhere in that part of Pike County.
